Late Wednesday, Dubai said it has asked for a stay on two of its largest companies’ debt, sending world markets skidding as investors lost confidence and tried to get a grip on banks’ exposure to the debt. As U.S. markets play catch-up to global stocks, they will do so only until 1:00 p.m. Eastern when markets close. Trading could be thin, which may contribute to the downward move. The move comes as part of the firm’s succession plan for later this year when Chief Executive Jamie Dimon steps down — and it puts Jes Staley in the lead to helm the company. Staley will take sole title as CEO of the investment bank, replacing Winters. Currently head of the asset management division, Staley will be succeeded in that job by Mary Callahan Erdoes, who is currently CEO of the company’s private bank business. Steve Black, co-CEO of the investment bank with Winters, will become executive chairman of the unit.
